MTU parameter

Maximum Transmission Unit, or MTU, is a maximum amount of transmitted information sent by one data package. The MTU parameter is assigned by the network interface. A standard MTU value for a cable connection is 1500. The 1500 MTU value means that the connection can allow only up to 1500 bytes of traffic.

In the majority of cases, the MTU value for VPN is 1450. Setting up OpenVPN requires a non-standard MTU parameter depending on the connection protocol, traffic encryption algorithm, consistency check algorithm, and compression. MTU allows to obtain these parameters and determine the very fact of OpenVPN usage.

How to avoid VPN detection
